This weeks additions consist of records pertaining to Maine counties and towns, including histories, vital records, cemetery transcriptions, centennial addresses, and church related. The “town registers” mentioned below can serve as both a directory for the town(s) and a census.

City Directories of New Bern, North Carolina 1911-1963

City directories are primarily useful for locating people in a particular place and time. They can tell you generally where an ancestor lived and give an exact location for census years. They are also useful for linkage with sources other than censuses. Generally a city directory will contain an alphabetical list of its citizens, listing the names of the heads of households, their addresses, and occupational information. Sometimes the wife’s name will be listed in parentheses or italics following the husband’s. Often, dates of deaths of individuals listed in the previous year’s directory are listed as well as the names …

A new manuscript has been added to Archive’s collection of digital books. It’s long title is: An Historical and Architectural Description of the Priory Church of Bridlington, in the East Riding of the county of York. Written in 1831 by Marmaduke Prickett this manuscript provides a vivid historical rumination about the Church and includes several fine etchings of the various churches in East Riding, and of various architecture details of this specific priory church.
